A student at Kathmandu University graduates not just with a degree and cutting-<br \/>\nedge knowledge of the academic discipline but also with the essential humane qualities<br \/>\nof critical inquiry and empathy.<br \/>\nUltimately, Kathmandu University\u2019s aim is to achieve academic excellence, innovation,<br \/>\nentrepreneurship and leadership through holistic, quality education that produces<br \/>\nleaders in the field and contributes to building a better world.<br \/>\nAt the core of Kathmandu University\u2019s academic excellence is its efforts towards<br \/>\ninternationalisation and global engagement. From early on, the university established<br \/>\ncollaborations with global universities and academic institutions through Memoranda of<br \/>\nUnderstanding for student and faculty exchange. Moreover, the university has<br \/>\nprioritised the admission of international students, with the firm belief that they serve<br \/>\nas informal global ambassadors of Nepal when they return home with their degrees.<br \/>\nIn its three-decade history, over 5,225 international students from 55 countries have<br \/>\ngraduated from Kathmandu University. That is an impressive 13 percent international<br \/>\nstudent percentage out of almost 43,123 total graduates of the university. What makes<br \/>\nKathmandu University a unique choice for international students are its affordable fees,<br \/>\nEnglish-medium teaching, easy visa norms, and diverse and hospitable Nepali society.<br \/>\nWith over 200 programmes across seven schools, Kathmandu University is one of<br \/>\nNepal\u2019s top universities. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, an enabling<br \/>\nenvironment for cutting-edge research, and globally renowned faculty, Kathmandu<br \/>\nUniversity is a pioneer in bringing knowledge and technology to the service of<\/h5>\n<h5>humankind. The university holds the distinction of producing over 50 percent of the<br \/>\ndoctors practising in Nepal today, and its programmes in Engineering, Science, Law,<br \/>\nManagement, Humanities and Education are for their significant interventions in the<br \/>\nacademia and the industry globally.<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Investing in Research, Development and Innovation<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Directorate at Kathmandu University<br \/>\nhelps facilitate, administer, monitor, and keep records of the research-based projects<br \/>\nand degrees undertaken at the university. The RDI has a list of 136 externally funded<br \/>\nrunning projects, of which 12 are funded by NTIC (KOICA) and are in the process of<br \/>\ncompletion. The major funding partners and collaborators are Ministries, various<br \/>\ngovernment bodies, UGC, ICIMOD, Energize Nepal, the European Union, and various<br \/>\ndevelopmental agencies and institutions from friendly countries such as India, China,<br \/>\nNorway, Sweden, the USA, the UK, Australia, Netherlands, and Germany etc.<br \/>\nThe Major research areas are education, health, energy, environment, agriculture,<br \/>\nwater, hydropower, IT, culture and society, and capacity building. As many as 11<br \/>\nexternally funded projects have been added in the year 2023 with approximate funding<br \/>\nof NRs4, 15, 91,829.<br \/>\nIn addition to externally funded projects, every year, KU also funds research projects<br \/>\nthrough its own resources (internally funded projects) so as to engage more and more<br \/>\nfaculty members and students in the research activities. This year, the projects receiving<br \/>\nfunding are categorised into those receiving NRs100,000 and NRs200,000.<br \/>\nThe RDI Office also keeps track of various research-based degrees, including PhDs. At<br \/>\npresent, there are 236 PhD scholars doing research for their degrees in the various<br \/>\nschools of the university, and among them, more than 25% are women. In 2023 alone,<br \/>\n126 new scholars were admitted for their PhDs in seven schools.<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Utilising Technology for Nation-Building<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Nepal Technology Innovation Centre (NTIC), apart from being a research centre,<br \/>\nembodies a commitment to national development, a promise to overcome challenges<br \/>\nand a celebration of the limitless possibilities that emerge when minds unite for a<br \/>\ncommon purpose. Established in collaboration with the Korea International<br \/>\nCooperation Agency, it highlights the transformative power of global collaboration in<\/h5>\n<h5>shaping the future of our nation and reflects the collaborative spirit that defines<br \/>\nKathmandu University.<br \/>\nNTIC is not merely a physical space; it is a nexus for research, innovation, and business<br \/>\ndevelopment, impeccably blending cutting-edge architecture with advanced<br \/>\nlaboratories. It is a space where ideas will flourish, innovation seeds will be nurtured,<br \/>\nand collaborations will spark breakthroughs that extend far beyond our borders.<br \/>\nIn a nation grappling with job scarcity and navigating challenging business climates,<br \/>\nNTIC is a testament to our dedication to creating a supportive environment for business<br \/>\ndevelopment. At the core of NTIC&amp;#39;s mission is the aspiration to inspire originality and<br \/>\nintegrate technology into the fabric of our society. NTIC aims to offer short, certified<br \/>\ncourses and training opportunities, opening our doors to researchers, entrepreneurs,<br \/>\nand technology enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds.<\/h5>\n<h5>From Campus to Community: Highlights of the Work of KU<br \/>\nSchools<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>School of Engineering (KUSOE)<\/strong><br \/>\nKUSOE has established Nepal&amp;#39;s first hydrogen refueling station and procured a<br \/>\nhydrogen car (Hyundai Nexo). In addition, the school has prepared tunnel design<br \/>\nframeworks for weak rock mass; tested Shotcrete and Concrete samples from different<br \/>\nhydropower projects; conducted a feasibility study and tunnel stability analysis for a<br \/>\none-kilometer-long road tunnel; and designed and constructed the Kathmandu<br \/>\nUniversity Research Tunnel (234m total length, 25m completed). The school has begun<br \/>\na Masters of Health Informatics programme, hosted Nepal&amp;#39;s largest physical hackathon<br \/>\nunder Major League Hacking (MLH); organized IT Meet and AI Meet; received grants<br \/>\nfor predictive maintenance of turbines and projects related to pumped storage<br \/>\nhydropower plants; and started the fabrication of a model turbine and established an<br \/>\nacademic Hydraulic Machines laboratory.<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS)<\/strong><br \/>\nKUSMS is renowned for its commitment to excellence in medical education and<br \/>\nresearch. Located at the forefront of advancing healthcare, it provides comprehensive<br \/>\ntraining for aspiring healthcare professionals. The curriculum integrates cutting-edge<br \/>\nmedical knowledge with hands-on clinical experience, preparing students for the<br \/>\nchallenges of modern medicine. The school\u2019s emphasis on research contributes to<br \/>\nmedical advancements, fostering a dynamic learning environment. It has already started<br \/>\nPhD and masters by research programs in different fields. It is planning to start a<br \/>\nfellowship in medical research and medical education soon. The school is working<\/h5>\n<h5>closely with the university administration in the establishment of a multi-specialty<br \/>\nteaching hospital.<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>School of Arts (KUSOA)<\/strong><br \/>\nKUSOA aims to promote professional knowledge, understanding and skills in the<br \/>\ndevelopment of arts, culture, and other social and economic potentials of human<br \/>\nresources through scholarly activities, critical thinking, analysis and communications<br \/>\npractical interventions, assessments and evaluations, integration of social, economic,<br \/>\npolitical, cultural and environmental components of development. The school has been<br \/>\nrunning programmes in Economics, Craft &amp;amp; Design, Music, Yogic Sciences &amp;amp; Wellbeing,<br \/>\nMedia Studies, Urban Studies, Development Studies, Human &amp;amp; Natural Resources<br \/>\nStudies, Landscape Management &amp;amp; Heritage Studies, and Community Development<br \/>\nthrough its central and constituent colleges.<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>School of Education (KUSOED)<\/strong><br \/>\nKOSOED, a pioneering institution in the teaching research of Education, encourages<br \/>\nstudents to engage in activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and<br \/>\ncollaboration. has strong partnerships with relevant agencies and communities to<br \/>\nunderstand their needs. We also invite industry professionals as guest speakers,<br \/>\nadvisors, or even as adjunct faculty &#8211; which we call \u2018professor of practice\u2019. Moreover, our<br \/>\nstudents engage in internships, co-op programs, and industry projects. It envisions<br \/>\nproducing better graduates, by offering community-driven and needs-based teacher<br \/>\neducation programs.<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>School of Science (SOS)<\/strong><br \/>\nSOS began its journey in higher education with studies in Biotechnology, Environmental<br \/>\nScience and Engineering, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Physics, and Life Sciences, and has<br \/>\nremained a go-to destination for the study of Science in Nepal. A major research<br \/>\nhighlight of SOS is the establishment of the aeroponic system, a process which does not<br \/>\nuse soil, thus eliminating the risk of disease transmitted through soil. In comparison<br \/>\nwith traditional screenhouses, it is known to give ten times the production of traditional<br \/>\nfarming systems.
